When I was first approached in 2008 in to help with the Shiptrack application I was excited! This would be my first time working on a logistics application like this and the thought of analyzing a process this complex while working with the business owners to create something that could bring meaningful impact to their operation was inspiring. As with all of my projects, the first step was learning.
I sat down with the business owners to make sure I had a complete understanding of their day-to-day operations. I wanted to understand how this application could be leveraged to optimize existing processes. Through these interactions we were able to not only create software that could automate a lot of their business but also expose greater visibility into their daily operations. We did this by focusing some of our efforts on advanced reporting, real-time delivery updates, fleet tracking and automated route planning not possible without the development of Shiptrack.
The end product was a software suite that not only met the needs of the initial business but grew into a product used by numerous organizations to help manage and optimize their delivery process.
